It was proposed that human needs can be organized into a hierarchy. The theory presents his hierarchy of needs in a pyramid shape, with basic needs at the bottom of the pyramid and more high-level needs at the top. He believed that people could not move up the pyramid to the higher more intangible needs until their basic needs were adequately fulfilled at the lower levels.
