“Emotion surfing” is a mindfulness exercise that helps individuals learn to apply mindful acceptance when they are experiencing big emotions. By practicing emotion surfing, individuals learn to observe and accept all parts of their emotional experience, instead of reacting to it, or trying to control or change it.
As one begins to accept their emotions rather than suppressing them or running away from them, they will eventually learn how to cope better in distressing times.
