After you experience a loss of a loved one, you may feel a range of emotions such as shock, numbness, anger and denial. Occasionally, a situation might be too big or complex to resolve and your emotions don’t work effectively, this can cause them to get thrown into a whirlpool and experience the most painful and devastating emotions. An emotional whirlpool occurs when two different loss emotions get tied up in a very dysfunctional way, the energy gets trapped and tangled and the feelings of our emotions grow in intensity and start to overwhelm us. A whirlpool is hard to get out of, and you might find that you are trapped in there going around and around using unhealthy coping skills (they may alleviate unpleasant feelings initially, but you are ultimately trapped in the cycle). However, if you can manage to get yourself out of the grief whirlpool, just as the river continues to flow down the stream, so does that reorganization of emotions, of mourning, acceptance, love and hope for the future.

This Grief Whirlpool mini worksheet bundle is a perfect way to help either yourself, child or clients through the grieving process.
